So what model of Server is right for you? That depends
on several variables that you most likely will know. Things like, how
much traffic, single site, hundreds of web sites, database driven, static,
dynamic. To be quite blunt, any of our Servers make ideal web servers.
It depends on what your criteria is. And it depends on how much, if
any, redundancy you want. Lets not forget that your budget will come
into play here to.
But there is one thing that is common regardless of budget
and your criteria. And that is Reliability. In even a simple single
processor web server, you want Reliability. We know it and produce very
reliable web servers.
Web Server Configuration Tips:
We strongly believe in redundancy. Our configuration
tips imply this.
- Server should have Hot-Pluggable Drives
(SAS or SATA), and should be capable of auto-rebuilding the
RAID Array(s) with Online Hot-Spare Drive(s).
The ProServ Servers below all do this.
- For a Single Processor Server, a Quad-Core Processor
and 2GB E.C.C. Memory
- Dual Processor Server with 4GB or more E.C.C. FBB Memory.
- Server with hot-pluggable back plane and hot-pluggable
drive bays and redundant hot-pluggable power supplies.
- At very minimum, a RAID-1 (2-drive mirror) array.
- RAID-50 (stripe of two RAID-5 array sets, 6 drives
minimum) if using database
- RAID-60 (You can loose up to 2 hard drive simultaneously
without loosing entire RAID set)
